CCTV Data Protection Act (DPA)/General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
It is a legal requirement for CCTV systems which are recording images of the public to comply with the Data Protection Act (DPA/GDPR). Failure to do so may result in fines, bad publicity and even legal sanctions.
Lightning Safety Systems take compliance very seriously and, although legal responsibility sits with the Data Controller, we always offer our assistance with the ICO registration, The CCTV Policy, System Management and Signage.

EU and British Standards Compliance for Intrusion and Hold-Up Alarm Systems (I&HAS)
The following British and European standards are currently applicable to I & HAS:
BS EN 5013-1:2006+A2:2017
PD 6662: 2017 which incorporates:
BS8243 – Installation and Confirmation of I & HAS
BS8473 – Management of I & HAS
BS9263 – Commissioning, maintenance and remote support of alarm systems
| Grade 1 | Low risk – Audible sounder only. |

| Grade 2 | Low to medium risk – Audible sounder, transmission to ARC and signal failure notification within 25 hours. |
| Grade 3 | Medium to high risk – Audible sounder, transmission to ARC, Police Response and signally failure notification within 5 hours. |
| Grade 4 | High risk – Audible sounder, transmission to ARC, Police Response and signalling failure notification within 3 minutes. |
In the past, customers expected a Police response upon an alarm activation. With a high number of activations being false alarms, Police time was mis-directed and wasted. PD6662: 2017 now suggests that only alarm systems installed to Grade 3 and 4 standards should benefit from Police response.

It is essential that the customer’s operational requirements are established at beginning of the process in order to ensure compliance throughout the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance procedures.
To ensure the alarm system remains fit for purpose, maintenance must be carried out on a regular basis, otherwise you risk faulty or sub-par performances and potential breach of insurance policies.
